#7 SUNY Cortland Edges Redhawks 2-1 in Non-Conference Game

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche (19-6) pitchers' Ryan Fennell, Walt Hadjuk, and Tim Devine held Cortland State (20-8) to just 2 runs but the nation's seventh ranked team was able to hang on for a 2-1 victory in a non-conference game on Saturday.

Cortland State notched 2 runs in the first inning but Fennell found his groove and held the Red Dragons in check for the rest of the game. He forced Cortland State to hit into inning ending double plays in the second, third, and fourth innings and did not allow an extra base hit past the first inning.

The Redhawks got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with three consecutive singles. Sean Lubin and Anthony Girdano reached on 2-out hits before Dan Burns singled home Lubin to cut the deficit to just one run.

The Red Dragons looked like they were going to answer in the top half of the next inning but Fennell was able to strand a runner in scoring position after giving up a leadoff hit. Devine came in the eighth inning and left runners at second and third base, but La Roche managed just one hit over the final three innings as Cortland State hung on for the win.

Fennell held Cortland to just 2 runs and struck out 7 over 7 innings of work. Hadjuk and  evine combined for 2 scoreless innings in relief.

Burns went 2 for 4 with a double and Lubin singled and scored. Girdano provided 2 hits and Goedeker, Williamson, and Sabatini added one each.

La Roche Baseball returns to the field tomorrow when they travel to St. Vincent College. Shane Healey and Brian Tougher each had 3 hits in a 7-1 win over the Bobcats last season.

Note: This season the Redhawks have played 3 top 15 teams (Marietta, Cortland State, Keystone).
