WASHINTON, PA – La Roche College Baseball (20-7) fell to Denison University (16-10) 6-1 in a non-conference game on Wednesday at Consol Energy Field.
La Roche got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Shane Healey hit a 1-out bloop single to short left field and scored on an RBI double up the right field line by Dan Burns.
Two Big Red players got on base in the top half of the next inning but shortstop Sean Lubin made a great diving stop to end the threat. Denison also had runners at first and second base in the top of the sixth but a got a strike 'em out, throw 'em out and fly out to right field to keep it at 1-0.
Denison took the lead with 5 runs in the seventh and added another run in the ninth to hold on for the 6-1 win.
Walt Hadjuk got his first career start and threw a scoreless 5 innings. He allowed just 3 hits and 4 total base runners.
Burns finished with 2 hits including a 2-run double and Healey went 2 for 4 with a double and run scored.
La Roche Baseball will travel to Penn State Behrend tomorrow for an important AMCC Conference game. The Lions come into the contest undefeated in conference play and winners of four straight.
