Redhawks Split Double-Header With Medaille

BUFFALO, NY – La Roche Baseball (24-9, 10-2) split a double-header with Medaille College (4-17, 3-8) 3-2 (L), 8-5 (W) in AMCC Conference action on Monday.

Sean Lubin singled home Shane Healey to give La Roche a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning of Game 1. The next inning, Colin Williamson hit a 1-out double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Sabatini to make it a 2-0 game.

The host Mavericks answered with runs in the fourth and sixth innings to tie it at 2-2. La Roche followed by getting runners to second and third base with just one out in the seventh, but Medaille got a ground out and fly out to end the threat. Medaille scored on an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to take the early game.

Healey and Lubin led the Redhawks with 2 hits apiece and Williamson and Franzee Baralamas each had a hit. Healey and Williamson scored runs and Lubin and Sabatini had RBIs. Anthony Girdano and Dan Burns got on base and Healey stole a base for the Redhawks.

James Connelly got the start and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 6 innings. Ian Kelly gave up a run on 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning to record the loss.

La Roche scored runs in each of the first five innings of Game 2 en route to an 8-5 victory.

Healey and Burns crossed home plate in the first inning to give the Redhawks a 2-0 lead before Medaille cut the deficit to one run after one inning of play.

La Roche responded with a run in the second inning and two more runs in the third but Medaille scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-3 game.

Lubin, Sabatini, and Tyler Craig answered with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give the Redhawks the lead for good. Medaille scored twice in the bottom of the seventh but La Roche was able to hold on for the win.

Craig ledoff and went 2 for 4 with a run and walk, while Healey and Lubin both registered 2 hits with an RBI and run scored. Girdano, Burns, and Williamson scored runs and Williamson, Baralamas, and Andrew Zeger notched RBIs. Sabitini got on base three times and scored twice in the win.

La Roche starting pitcher Walt Hadjuk tossed 5 1/3 innings and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5 batters. Tim Devine threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

La Roche Baseball will host Mt. Aloysius College on Wednesday for an important conference double-header. The Mounties split with Pitt-Bradford on Sunday.
