Buffalo, NY – The La Roche baseball team (27-10, 13-3) swept D'Youville College (7-18, 5-9) 19-2 and 3-0 in their AMCC regular season finale at Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo, NY.
After scoring just one run in the first three innings, the Redhawks' offense exploded for 18 runs over the final four innings. Anthony Girdano scored the first run for La Roche on a sacrifice fly by Matt Sabatini in the second inning. In the fourth inning, a walk to Brad Goedeker set up Andrew Zeger for an RBI double to left-center. Tyler Craig would single home Zeger and after stealing second, scored on an RBI single to center field by Shane Healey to give the Redhawks a 4-0 lead.
La Roche put things out of reach with a massive fifth inning, scoring 8 runs on 7 hits to take a 12-0 lead. Seven Redhawks recorded an RBI in the inning. The Redhawks struck again in the sixth on a two-run blast by Jon Watson, and tallied 5 more in the seventh.
In the win, fourteen different Redhawks scored a run and twelve recorded an RBI. Shane Healey went 2-6 with a run, RBI, and 2 stolen bases. Anthony Girdano was 1-3 with a double, 2 runs, and an RBI. In game two of the double header, the Redhawks bats were held in check through the first four innings as starting pitcher Cole Lentz shut out the Spartans' offense. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth, where Sabatini led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Sabatini would score and Craig would reach on an error by the second baseman. Lubin would then pick up an RBI on a safety squeeze that plated Craig, giving the Redhawks a 2-0 lead. La Roche would add a run in the sixth before Walt Hadjuk closed the seventh inning to pick up his first save of the season.
In a low scoring affair, Andrew Zeger (2-4), Dan Burns (2-3, SB), and Matt Sabatini (2-3, R) each had multiple hits in the 3-0 win.
Cole Lentz (3-1) picked up his third win of the season, throwing 5.2 shutout innings. Lentz struck out 7, allowing 5 hits and 1 walk. Tim Devine and Walt Hadjuk finished the final 1.1 innings, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs to preserve the shutout victory.
