ERIE, PA – La Roche Baseball scored twice in the eighth inning to break open a scoreless game and Cole Lentz and Walt Hadjuk combined for nine shutout innings as the Redhawks downed Pitt-Greensburg 2-0. The victory keeps the Redhawks' hopes alive of winning their second consecutive AMCC Championship.
Pitt-Greensburg's best scoring chance came in the first inning when leadoff hitter Greg Lynn reached third base with one out, but Lentz ended the inning with a strikeout and flyout to keep it scoreless. The Bobcats placed runners in scoring position again in the fourth inning before a textbook 5-4-3 double play ended the threat.
La Roche put runners at third base in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, but it was not until the eighth inning that the Redhawks were able to get on the board. With two outs in the eighth, pinch hitter Franzee Baralamas was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a single to right by Dan Burns. Baralamas scored in the next at bat on a single by Girdano, and Sabatini followed with a single to right scoring pinch runner Colin Feikles.
Hadjuk shut down Pitt-Greensburg in the ninth as the Redhawks held on for the important win.
Lentz got the start and cruised in 7 shutout innings giving up just 2 hits while striking out 5. Hadjuk threw 2 scoreless innings and allowed just 2 hitters to reach base to register the win.
Girdano and Sabatini had RBI singles and Baralamas and Feikles scored runs. Tougher, Girdano and Sabatini each reached base twice in the win.
La Roche Baseball will resume play tomorrow at 2PM for a chance to move on to the AMCC Championship Game. They will take on the loser of tomorrow's Mt. Aloysius vs. Penn State Behrend game.
