Frantz's Three-Pointer Lifts Redhawks to Win in Season Opener

PITTSBURGH, PA – Ryan Frantz hit a three pointer with seventeen seconds left in regulation to overcome an eleven point deficit and give La Roche (1-1) a 72-71 win over Penn State Beaver (1-1) in a thrilling season opener. The win is the Redhawks fourteenth in a row at the Kerr Fitness Center.

La Roche trailed by ten at halftime and as many as eleven early in the second half before going on a 20-0 run. The run was capped by a steal and layup by Daron Tabron.

Despite holding a large lead, the visiting Nittany Lions stormed back to take a six point lead with less than three minutes left.  The Redhawks however, hit three free throws and Michael Dixon converted a layup before Frantz's heroics ended it.

Derek Barber-Richards led all scorers with 18 points and David Jackson added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Dixon had a game-high seven assists and six steals.

The Redhawks will host Waynesburg on Saturday, November 19 for an AMCC vs. PAC matchup. Last season, La Roche beat the visiting Yellow Jackets 65-60 in overtime.

Notes: La Roche will host their annual alumni game on Saturday, November 19 at 5:00PM in the Kerr Fitness Center.
