ERIE, PA – Joel McIntosh scored a game-high 16 points as La Roche men's basketball (7-1, 4-0) topped Penn State Behrend (2-6, 2-2) 45-41 in a rematch of last year's AMCC Conference Championship.
La Roche took a 24-16 lead into halftime despite a slow start. Penn State Behrend led 9-5 at the 15:00 minute mark before the Redhawks went on a 17-5 run to end the half. McIntosh led the charge with 11 first-half points and La Roche held the Lions to just 30% shooting in the opening frame.
Penn State Behrend opened the second half with a 16-0 run and forced ten turnovers to hold the Redhawks scoreless for the period's first ten minutes. La Roche regrouped and ended the game on a 22-9 run of their own.
La Roche held the Lions' leading scorer, Russ Conley (15.1 ppg), to 7 points.
The Redhawks attempted only thirty-five shots in the contest but hit six 3-pointers and went 13 for 21 from the foul line. La Roche outrebounded Penn State Behrend 34-25 despite being outscored 24-12 in the paint.
The Redhawks will travel to York College on Tuesday, December 13 to take on the Spartans. La Roche will return to AMCC Conference action on January 4, 2012 when they travel to Penn State Altoona.
