PITTSBURGH, PA – Ryan Frantz hit a school-record 8 three-pointers and scored 26 points in La Roche men's basketball's (16-5, 11-3) 94-65 win over Penn State Altoona (1-18, 1-12) in conference action on Wednesday night.
La Roche never trailed in the first half but the visiting Nittany Lions shot 56% from the field keep it close. Mike Dixon led the Redhawks with 13 first half points on 6 of 7 shooting and Frantz had four assists.
The Redhawks defense turned into a strength in the second half as La Roche held Penn State Altoona to just 29% in the final twenty minutes. The La Roche offense also heated up hitting 64% of their shots including 5 of 6 three-pointers.
Frantz led all scorers with 26 points and made 8 of 9 shots from behind the arc. Derek Barber-Richards (16 points), Mike Dixon (15 points), and David Jackson (13 points) each added double digit point totals and Jackson grabbed a game-high 9 boards. Oneal Brown had a career-high 5 blocked shots.
The Redhawks shot a season-high 60% (37 of 62) from the field and hit 13 of 21 shots from three-point range. La Roche also outscored the Nittany Lions in the paint 44-26.
La Roche men's basketball will travel to Buffalo, New York on Saturday to take on D'Youville College. David Jackson recorded 12 points and 20 rebounds in a 92-83 loss to the Spartans on January 7 at the Kerr Fitness Center.
