STEUBENVILLE, OH – Mike Dixon scored a game-high 19 points as the La Roche men's basketball team (18-6, 13-4) overcame a nine point halftime deficit to defeat Franciscan University (0-23, 0-17) 64-57 (OT) in AMCC Conference action on Wednesday Night. The win clinches second place and a first round bye in the AMCC Conference Tournament.
Franciscan started the game on a 9-2 run and led by as many as twelve points before the Redhawks started to chip away at the lead. La Roche got back into the contest by controlling the glass and hitting three point shots.
Trailing 46-42 with 50 seconds left in regulation, Dixon nailed a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one. The Redhawks immediately fouled and the Barons made both of their free throws before Derek Barber-Richards drained a three to force overtime.
La Roche and Franciscan played a back and forth overtime but the Redhawks hit 10 of 14 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Dixon led La Roche with 19 points, 8 boards, and 3 steals and Andre Flanigan added 15 points including 13 points in the second half and overtime. David Jackson finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds in the win.
The Redhawks out-rebounded Franciscan 39-26 and outscored them 20-6 off turnovers. La Roche also outscored the Barons by 21 on second chance points.
La Roche men's basketball will travel to Medaille College on Saturday to take on the Mavericks. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00PM.
