Men's Basketball Picked to Finish Second in AMCC

La Roche men's basketball was chosen to finish second in the 2012-2013 AMCC Preseason Poll released this morning.

The 2010-2011 conference champions return four starters and welcome La Roche Athletics Hall of Famer Hermie Carmichael as its first-year head coach. The Redhawks enjoyed another strong season in 2011 and finished second in the AMCC with a 19-9 record and 13-5 record in conference-play.

Leading the way for La Roche are David Jackson and Joel McIntosh who were named AMCC Preseason Players to Watch. Last season, Jackson was named an AMCC All-Conference Second Team performer and averaged 10.9 ppg. He also finished second in the conference in rebounds (10.0 rpg) and lead it in offensive rebounds (5.1 orpg).

McIntosh has been one of the best centers in the league over the past four seasons and is the Redhawks leading scorer among returning players. Last year, McIntosh finished 17th in the AMCC in scoring (12.0 ppg) and he ranked in the top 20 in rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots.

Derek Barber-Richards and Andrew Flanigan are also returnees who started for the Redhawks last season. Barber-Richards finished ranked in the AMCC top 20 in scoring, rebounding and offensive rebounds, while Flanigan was among the best guards in the league on both the offensive and defensive sides on the ball.

Veterans Daron Tabron, Ryan Frantz, and Jean Freeman figure to see plenty of playing time as well as junior college transfer Lionel Perkins.

La Roche men's basketball will kick off their season when they travel to Clarion on November 15 before returning for their home-opener against Geneva on November 29.
