BUFFALO, NY – The Redhawks (3-2, 1-0) pulled down 50 rebounds and their bench outscored D'Youville (0-6, 0-2) by 17 points to beat the host Spartans 79-72 and win their AMCC Conference opener on Saturday.
La Roche trailed early in the contest but used a 22-6 run and an alley-opp from Lionel Perkins to Andre Flanigan to take control of the game. David Jackson finished the first half with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Joel McIntosh registered 11 points. The Redhawks success continued in the second half when they shot 60% from the field and 50% from behind the arc.
McIntosh led the Redhawks with 20 points and went 7 for 7 from the free throw line and Perkins added 11 points. Jackson recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds and Jean Freeman grabbed 7 boards. Neal McKown registered 9 points in the win.
La Roche grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds and shot a season-best 49% from the field. The Redhawks also hit their most free throws this season with 25.
