PITTSBURGH, PA – David Jackson registered a school-record 16 offensive rebounds and the Redhawks (5-3, 2-1) broke the school's mark with 32 on the offensive glass to hand previously unbeaten Mt. Aloysius (6-2, 3-1), an 83-69 loss on Wednesday Night. The win lifts the Redhawks into a first-place tie in the AMCC Conference standings.
La Roche trailed by as many as 10 points early but controlled the offensive glass to get back into the game. David Jackson finished the first half with 14 boards (12 offensive rebounds) and Joel McIntosh and Derek Barber-Richards added 7 and 5 rebounds respectively
La Roche went on a 10-0 run midway through the second half to take control of the contest. The run was highlighted by an alley oop from Joel McIntosh to Andre Flanigan.
David Jackson paced the Redhawks with 20 points and 22 rebounds, including a school record 16 offensive rebounds. Joel McIntosh finished with 15 points, 9 boards and went 9 for 10 from the free throw line. Andre Flanigan netted 10 points and 6 rebounds and Torrin Smith went 3 for 4 from three-point range. Jared Richardson registered his first-career bucket in the win.
The Redhawks outrebounded Mt. Aloysius 54-25 including a school record 32 on the offensive end. La Roche held the Mounties to just 21% from behind the arc and outscored them by 24 on second chance points.
La Roche men's basketball will travel to Ithaca College on Saturday for the second half of a home and home series. Ryan Frantz hit 6 three-pointers in last season's 80-77 win over the Bombers.
