NEW WILMINGTON, PA – La Roche men's basketball (5-5) dropped a heartbreaker to Westminster College (3-4) 75-73 in an AMCC vs. PAC matchup on Monday night.
The Redhawks dominated the glass to take a 31-26 lead into halftime. They held a 29-13 advantage on the boards and outscored the Titans by 12 points after the first twenty minutes. La Roche led by as many as 14 points in the second half and by 10 points inside of ten minutes before Westminster clawed back into the game.
Westminster went on a 9-0 run to tie it 60-60 before David Jackson and Andre Flanigan hit shots to go up 4. The Titans evened it up again before both teams traded baskets, but Westminster went 5 for 6 from the foul line to hang on.
Jackson recorded his third double-double of the season with 19 points (9 of 13) and 10 rebounds. Lionel Perkins finished with 17 points and 5 assists and went 4 for 7 from behind the arc. Derek Barber-Richards netted 14 points on 4 three-pointers while Ryan Frantz added 11 points.
Despite the loss, the Redhawks shot 59% from the field in the second half and outrebounded Westminster 44-32. La Roche also assisted on 63% of their field goals.
The Redhawks will travel to Carnegie Mellon on Thursday for a non-conference game. La Roche has won their past two meetings with the Tartens.
