Jackson Breaks Rebounding Record As Redhawks Move On To ECAC Semifinal

PITTSBURGH, PA – David Jackson became La Roche's all-time leader in rebounds when he grabbed his 663rd career board in the Redhawks' (17-10) 78-72 win over Bethany (16-11) on Wednesday. La Roche moves on to the ECAC Semifinal where they will meet Albright College on Saturday in Reading, Pennsylvania.

La Roche held a 65-57 lead with 7:22 left to play before Bethany went on a run to tie it at 70-70 apiece. Coach Bott called a timeout to regroup his squad and the Redhawks responded with an 8-2 run to end the game. The run was highlighted by an emphatic, fast-break dunk from Jackson.

Coach Bott stepped in for Coach Carmichael and helped La Roche advance to their second straight ECAC Semifinal.

"I told the guys before the game to trust in the program and follow the standards that are already in place. I'm proud of our seniors Derek and Joel for going out with a win at home, and thankful for all 15 guys responding and getting through this game together."

Joel McIntosh led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 8 for 13 from the field and grabbing 9 rebounds. Ryan Frantz had a strong game scoring 16 points and going 4 for 6 from behind the arc. Andre Flanigan registered 12 points and 3 assists and Derek Barber-Richards contributed 9 points and 8 boards in the win.

Jackson scored 12 points in addition to his 6 rebounds to break the record. He passes up Eric Urbanowicz who has held the record since 1982.

"We're extremely happy to see David get the record," said Coach Bott. "He has a ton of heart and desire and to do what he's done in only three years is special. His teammates and the coaching staff appreciate the effort he brings every day."

La Roche had their best shooting night of the season going 31 for 55 from the field (56%) and 8 for 16 (50%) from three-point land. They outrebounded Bethany 36-21 and outscored them in the paint 42-24.

The Redhawks will travel to Reading, PA to play #1 seed Albright on Saturday. Albright defeated McDaniel 67-55 in an ECAC Quarterfinal game.
