Schaffner Nets Hat Trick But Redhawks Drop Home-Opener to Alfred

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche College Lacrosse (0-4) dropped their home-opener to Alfred College (4-0) 20-6 on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

La Roche played terrific lacrosse early but penalties began to take a toll. The Redhawks committed 8 first half penalties and Alfred converted 3 into goals.

Blaine Schaffner got the Redhawks on the board with a goal at the 3:47 mark of the first half. Bryce Wells added his third goal of the season early in the second half before Schaffner found the back of the net for the second time. Jean Thouin and Steve Murphy netted a goal each late and Schaffner scored on a feed from Dustin Reykdal to complete the hat trick.

Schaffner registered his first-career hat trick and Thouin added a goal and an assist.  Murphy and Wells each scored goals and Dustin Reykdal had an assist. Eugene LaBorde led the Redhawks on defense with 24 saves and 5 ground balls. Thouin and Nathaniel Marsh notched 4 ground balls and forced 2 turnovers each. Thouin went 4 for 8 in the face-off circle.

La Roche attempted 25 shots including 12 that reached goal. They also converted 16 of 22 clears, but committed 16 penalties and allowed 60 shots.

La Roche will travel to Franciscan University on Saturday, March 16 to take on the Barons. This is the first game between the two teams.
