BUFFALO, NY – Jean Thouin scored 4 goals and added an assist but Medaille (6-5) topped the Redhawks (1-8) 22-10 on a warm and windy Thursday afternoon.
The Mavericks went up 4-0 in the first quarter before La Roche answered to cut the deficit to two. Thouin put the Redhawks on the board when he buried a feed from Dustin Reykdal and 25 seconds later TJ Kretzler notched his first goal of the season.
Medaille made it a 5-2 game at the 6:21 mark of the first frame before Thouin registered his second goal of the game. The Mavericks scored the final two goals of the half and went to win 22-10.
Thouin finished with 4 goals and an assist while Mike DiMarco, Dustin Reykdal, and Bryce Wells each notched a goal and an assist. TJ Kretzler scored his first and Dom Deltando and Jon Monahan each netted their fifth. Crawford Healey provided 2 assists and Steve Murphy added one.
Thouin, Murphy, Healey, Nate Marsh, and James McKee all forced turnovers and Eugene LaBorde paced the Redhawks with 3 ground balls and 7 saves. McKee and Deltando each picked up 2 ground balls.
Despite the loss, La Roche outshot the Mavericks 45-39 and was perfect on clears (14 of 14). They also won the faceoff battle 18-17 and committed just 3 penalties.
La Roche Lacrosse will travel to Hilbert College on Saturday before returning to campus next Wednesday for Senior Day. The Redhawks hold a 2-1 series advantage against Hilbert.
