Redhawks Rally Comes Up Short in 13-12 Loss to Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – La Roche Lacrosse (1-9) dropped a heartbreaker to Hilbert College (7-3) 13-12 in a back-and-forth game on a cold and windy Saturday. The loss evens the all-time series at 2-2.

The Hawks got on the board first with two straight goals before Dustin Reykdal and Crawford Healey found the back of the net to tie it a 2-2. Hilbert answered to take a 3-2 lead but Jean Thouin and Nate Marsh tallied scores to put La Roche ahead.

Hilbert took back the lead with two goals over the next two minutes but Healey, Jon Monahan, and Dom Deltando beat the Hawks goalie to take a 7-5 advantage.

Hilbert scored 7 of the next 8 goals before a big fourth quarter by the Redhawks got them back in it. Reykdal, Bryce Wells, Deltando, and Monahan scored 4 of the next 5 goals to cut the deficit to just one but Hilbert hung on for their third straight victory.

Reykdal paced the Redhawks with 3 goals and an assist and Healey registered 2 goals and 3 assists. Deltando and Monahan netted 2 goals each and Wells finished with a goal and 2 assists. Thouin produced a goal and an assist and Marsh scored his first career goal to go along with an assist.

Marsh forced 3 turnovers to lead La Roche on defense and goalkeeper Eugene LaBorde made 11 stops and picked up 9 ground balls. Reykdal finished with 7 ground balls and Marsh finished with 6.

La Roche Lacrosse will return home on Wednesday when they host Mt. Union for Senior Day. The game is scheduled for 4PM.
