COLUMBUS, OH – The Redhawks (2-10) fell to Otterbein University (12-4) 17-5 in Saturday lacrosse action. The Cardinals came into the contest winners of six straight.
The Redhawks drew a penalty and Dustin Reykdal made Otterbein pay at the 11:14 mark when he blasted a feed from Crawford Healey past the Otterbein goalie for a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals answered 52 seconds later but La Roche struck again with 6:42 left in the first quarter on a goal by Steve Murphy.
Otterbein scored five straight goals before Mike DiMarco, Reykdal, and Sean Clark found the back of the net to cut the deficit to just two goals. However, the second half belonged to Otterbein as they held on for the win.
Reykdal paced the Redhawks with 2 goals and Healey added 2 assists. Murphy, Clark, and DiMarco scored a goal each and Jean Thouin tallied an assist.
La Roche goalie, Eugene LaBorde, made 19 stops and led the Redhawks with 5 ground balls. Healey finished with 4 ground balls and James McKee, Mike Merchant, and Branden Sparks notched 3 ground balls apiece.
La Roche attempted 23 shots and picked up 28 ground balls. They went 14 for 26 on clears and forced 20 Otterbein turnovers.
Redhawks Lacrosse will travel to St. Vincent College on Monday for their season finale. This is the first matchup between the two teams.
