PITTSBURGH, PA – Nick Showman scored the first goal of his career as La Roche men's soccer (9-4, 3-2) downed Franciscan University (2-9, 0-3) 2-1 in an AMCC Conference game on Wednesday night.
Showman gave the Redhawks a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute when he buried a breakaway off of a one-touch pass from Bryan Weimerskirch. Chad Trozzi doubled the lead less than seven minutes later when he headed in a Ryan Luffey corner kick.
The visiting Barons cut the lead to one with nineteen minutes to play but Redhawk's goalkeeper Michael Brunozzi made a fantastic save in the eleventh minute to preserve the win.
Showman and Trozzi each scored goals and Weimerskirch added his AMCC-leading eighth assist of the season. Luffey recorded his fifth assist of the season in the win.
The Redhawks return to action on Saturday when they host AMCC-Conference leaders Pitt-Bradford. The Panthers come into the contest winners of four straight.
