Softball Drops Double-Header to Thiel 6-3, 12-4

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Softball (4-10) lost both games of a double-header to Thiel College (6-11) 6-3, 12-4 (5 innings) in a non-conference game.

The visiting Tomcats opened Game 1 with a 4-0 lead before La Roche cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kelsey Deem led off the inning with a walk and Amanda Varhula followed with a single. Deemed scored on a sacrifice hit by Autumn Hubert and Varhula scored two batters later on single by Chelsea Callow. Amber Steenbeke also scored a run in the inning.

Thiel added two runs in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the win.

Starting pitcher Deanna Tritinger recorded the loss allowing four runs in four innings of work. Amber Steenbeke went 2 for 3 with a run scored and Valerie O'Neill recorded a triple.

The Lady Redhawks allowed four runs apiece in the first two innings of Game 2. Despite the loss, La Roche had a strong bottom half of the second inning scoring four runs on four hits.

Cara Giannandrea and Amanda Varhula each went 2 for 3. Kimberly McLay and Kelsey Deem recorded two RBI apiece.

Starting pitcher Kara Jo Egelsky threw two innings to record the loss.

The Lady Redhawks will host a double-header against Medaille College on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00PM in an AMCC Conference game.
