PITTSBURGH, PA – Amanda Varhula homered twice as the Lady Redhawks (6-10, 2-0) swept Medaille College (2-10, 0-2) 10-1, 10-2 to end a six game losing skid.
The Lady Redhawks scored three runs in the first inning and six runs in the third inning of Game 1 to take a commanding lead. Both innings were capped off by solo home runs by Varhula.
Starting pitcher Kara Jo Egelsky threw her third complete game of the season allowing one run on four hits while striking out six batters.
Cara Giannandrea, Kelsey Deem, and Amanda Varhula recorded two RBI apiece and Varhula, Sydnie Martin, and Autumn Hubert each scored two runs. Six Lady Redhawks recorded at least two hits in the win.
The Lady Redhawks scored seven runs in the first three innings of Game 2 and used strong pitching to run away with the night cap.
Starting pitcher Deanna Tritinger allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven in five innings and Sam Colton threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Ashley Baron went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored and Kelsey Deem finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Lady Redhawks will host a double-header against Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, April 5 at 3:00PM. The Panthers are coming off of a double-header sweep at the hands Washington & Jefferson on March 29.
