Lady Redhawks Top Penn State Behrend 4-1

PITTSBURGH, PA – Kara Jo Egelsky allowed one run in seven innings as the Lady Redhawks (14-13, 10-3) beat visiting Penn State Behrend (11-13, 8-7) 4-1 in AMCC Conference play on Tuesday.

La Roche took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Cara Giannandrea scored on a single by Amanda Varhula. The Lady Lions answered with a run of their own in the top of the second inning before the Lady Redhawks took the lead for good in the fifth inning.

Jodi Walsh, Kelsey Deem, and Amanda Varhula all scored for the Lady Redhawks and Ashley Baron added a two RBI triple in the fifth inning.

Egelsky threw her tenth complete game of the season allowing one run (zero earned runs) on three hits while striking out five batters and walking three.

Varhula went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored and Baron finished with two RBI. Chelsea Faynor, Autumn Hubert, and Sydnie Martin all recorded two hits in the win.

Game 2 was suspended in the fourth inning with the score 3-0 Penn State Behrend.

The Lady Redhawks will travel to Mt. Aloysius tomorrow, April 27 for a double-header at 3:00PM Last season, La Roche split a double-header with the Mounties.
