Deem Homers as Redhawks Come Back to Beat Behrend
PITTSBURGH, PA – Kelsey Deem hit her fifth home run of the season as the Lady Redhawks (16-16, 12-6) came back to beat Penn St. Behrend (14-15, 10-8) 6-5 in their season finale at the La Roche Softball Field. The first 3 ½ innings were played on April 26 before the game was suspended by lightning.
The Lady Redhawks trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning when the game resumed but answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. La Roche added two more runs in the fifth inning on Deem's home run and a pair of doubles to take a 6-3 lead.
Penn St. Behrend scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh but the Lady Redhawks held on as the Lions stranded the tying run at third base.
Starting pitcher, Deanna Tritinger, allowed four runs (three earned runs) on seven hits in six innings. Ashley DeVito pitched the seventh inning to earn her first save.
Kelsey Deem went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and a home run. Jodi Walsh, Amanda Varhula, and Ashley Baron eached recorded two hits and Baron added two RBI.
