Tritinger Homers in Loss to Grove City

PITTSBURGH, PA – Deanna Tritinger hit her first career home run but the Lady Redhawks (7-5) dropped a double-header to Grove City (8-8) 12-3, 7-6 in their home-opener on Tuesday.

The visiting Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third of Game 1 with a pair of two-run home runs. Alexandra Spain cut the deficit to three runs in the bottom half of the third when she singled home Kim McLay, but Grove City scored seven unearned runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game.

Game 1 starter, Deanna Tritinger, threw all five innings and allowed 12 runs (4 earned runs) on 10 hits while striking out 4 batters. Tritinger helped her cause on the mound by belting a two run home run and Kiersten Lorditch added two hits and scored a run. Kim McLay went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored and Alexandra Spain recorded an RBI single.

La Roche trailed 7-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning of Game 2 before stringing off a series of hits to get back into the contest. Brittany Lunt led off the inning with a single and Lorditch doubled before Cyana Wulfers doubled both home to cut the lead to 7-4. Kim McLay followed with an RBI triple and Alexandra Spain added an RBI double but two consecutive outs ended the threat.

Alexandra Spain threw all seven innings allowing 7 runs (6 earned runs) while striking out 3 batters. Kaylee Zozos went 3 for 4 with a double and scored twice and Kim McLay went 2 for 4 with a double, triple, RBI, and run scored. Deanna Tritinger and Jennifer Lentz each collected 2 hits and Cyana Wulfers added 2 RBI in the loss.
