Lady Redhawks Stay in Playoff Hunt With Double-Header Sweep
BUFFALO, NY – La Roche Softball (14-16, 6-10) kept their playoff hopes alive with a double-header sweep of Medaille (7-28, 5-13) 6-5, 11-5 in a big AMCC Conference game on Saturday. The Lady Redhawks can secure the #6 seed in the AMCC Conference Tournament with a sweep of Pitt-Bradford tomorrow.
La Roche scored 5 runs in the second inning of Game 1 to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Deanna Tritinger led off the inning with a single, and an error by the Mavericks' third baseman allowed Jodi Walsh to reach base. Ashley Crnkovich followed with a 2-RBI single before a series of errors led to two more runs. Walsh tripled and scored in the third inning to take a 6-2 lead, but Medaille scored a run in the fourth inning and two in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5. Tritinger pitched a scoreless seventh inning to end it.
Lea Kronz went 1 for 3 with a run and reached base three times. Alex Spain had an RBI single and scored a run and Jodi Walsh scored twice. Ashley Crnkovich went 1 for 3 with a run and 2 RBI and Deanna Tritinger threw all 7 innings to record her team-leading seventh win of the season.
The Lady Redhawks' 1-4 batters recorded 12 total hits including Alex Spain who registered 5 hits to lead the La Roche in an 11-5 Game 2 win.
Alex Spain went 5 for 5 with 2 doubles, 5 RBI, and scored 3 times while Kim McLay reached base 5 times and scored three runs. Lea Kronz hit leadoff and scored twice and Kaylee Zozos added 2 RBI and scored. Cyana Wulfers threw 3 scoreless innings and struck out 4 batters in relief.
The Lady Redhawks will host Pitt-Bradford on Sunday in a must-win series. Last season, the teams split a pair of games.
