Softball Opens Season With Win Over RMU-Springfield, Loss to Lycoming

S. MYRTLE BEACH, SC – La Roche College Softball (1-1) went 1-1 on their first day of the season falling to Lycoming (2-0) 4-2 before defeating RMU-Springfield (0-1) 4-1 on a chilly but sunny Monday.

The Lady Redhawks trailed 4-0 before a big 5th inning got them back in the game. Jodi Walsh led off the frame with a walk and Jennifer Lentz hit a sharp ball to third base to advance her to second. Walsh reached third on a Kacey Haluska single and scored on a fielder's choice from Lea Kronz. After Kim McLay flew out to left field, Kaylee Zozos walked to load the bases. Alex Spain came through with an RBI single, but Kronz was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

La Roche had scoring chances in the second and seventh innings but stranded runners at second base to end the threat.

Spain went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Kronz added an RBI on a fielder's choice. Walsh reached base twice and scored and Haluska notched a hit and a run scored. Zozos walked and doubled in the loss.

Deanna Tritinger (0-1) went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned runs) on 5 hits while striking out 3 batters. Kaylee Girdwood threw 2 innings of scoreless relief for the Lady Redhawks.

La Roche College Softball will play RMU-Springfield at 9:30AM, Urbana at 2:30PM, and Mt. St. Mary's at 5:00PM tomorrow.
