Thiel Edges Lady Redhawks in 2-Game Series Sweep

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche Softball (6-20) dropped a double-header to Thiel College (12-16) 11-1, 9-0 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.

Thiel scored 5 runs in the first inning and 2 more in the third inning to take a 7-0 Game 1 lead but the Lady Redhawks got one back in the bottom of the third.

Lea Kronz singled up the middle and Kaylee Zozos hit a 2-out RBI double to deep left center field to put La Roche on the board. The visiting Tomcats added 3 more runs in the sixth inning to trigger the 8-run rule.

Zozos doubled twice and added an RBI and Kronz registered 2 singles and scored. Alex Spain and Amber Steenebeke both got on base in the Game 1 loss.

Ashley DeVito and Kaylee Girdwood tossed three innings each for La Roche.

In Game 2, Jennifer Lentz hit a 1-out first inning triple and Spain walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch, but Thiel got out of the jam to keep the game scoreless.

La Roche had a chance to take the lead in the second inning with runners on first and second base and no outs, but two strikeouts and a lineout ended the threat.

Thiel scored 2 runs in the second inning and 7 runs in the fourth inning to take the game.

Lentz tripled, and Jodi Walsh and Sarah Kohli each finished with singles. Spain and Bauer reached on walks. Cyana Wulfers got the starting nod and Girdwood pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief.

La Roche Softball will return to AMCC Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford (14-0, 9-3). The Panthers are coming off a double-header sweep of Hilbert College on Wednesday.
