Lady Redhawks Down Behrend, Take Over 2nd Place in AMCC

ERIE, PA – Four Lady Redhawks (15-4, 10-2) played at least thirty-seven minutes as La Roche downed Penn State Behrend (13-5, 9-3) 67-63 in AMCC Conference play on Saturday night. The win is their fifth straight and puts them in sole possession of second place in the conference.

Despite playing without AMCC Conference scoring leader Chantelle Jennings, the Lady Redhawks entered the break tied at 27. Chloe' Stewart led the Redhawks with 7 points and 3 steals in the first twenty minutes of play.

La Roche came out on fire in the second half going 5 for 8 from the field on the way to a 12-3 run. Freshman Casie Cygan led the charge with 5 points and Amanda Garland had 4 points as the Lady Redhawks took control of the game. The Lady Lions tried to make a late comeback but fell short.

The story of the game was the play of La Roche's underclassman. Ariel Green led the Lady Redhawks with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Green made 8 of 12 field goals and played thirty-eight minutes. Cygan recorded 18 points and Garland and Stewart each finished with 11 points apiece. Garland played all 40 minutes in the win.

Behrend's leading scorer and the AMCC Conference Co-Player of the Year, Amy Oldach, finished with a game-high 25 points in the loss.

La Roche Women's Basketball will travel to Penn State Altoona (8-11, 5-7) on Wednesday, February 2 at 6:00PM to take on the Lady Lions. Penn State Altoona currently sits in sixth place in the AMCC and is coming off of a 66-57 loss to D'Youville.
