Lady Redhawks Drop Overtime Thriller to Carnegie Mellon 58-57
PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (10-4) dropped an overtime thriller to Carnegie Mellon (6-6) 58-57 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Skibo Gym in Oakland.
The Lady Redhawks trailed 49-46 with a minute left in regulation before Ariel Green drained a three-pointer to force overtime.
The host Tartans went on a 7-0 run to open overtime but the Lady Redhawks fought back to take a 57-56 lead with 46 seconds to play. Ja'Nia McPhatter fought for an offensive rebound and hit a layup to give La Roche a one point advantage. Carnegie Mellon answered twenty seconds later with a layup and hung on for the win.
Casie Cygan and Jessica Pitts led La Roche with 15 points apiece and Pitts grabbed 9 boards. McPhatter added 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting and contributed 4 steals. Green and Amanda Garland each finished with 3 steals.
Despite the loss, the Lady Redhawks forced thirty-two turnovers and out-rebounded the Tartans 18-13 on the offensive glass.
La Roche women's basketball will return to AMCC Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford. The game is a rematch of the AMCC Tournament Semifinals.
