La Roche College Lady Redhawks Finish 19th at Carnegie Mellon Cross Country Invitational

At Schenley Park in Oakland on Saturday October 13, 2007, the Lady Redhawk harriers participated in the Carnegie Mellon Cross Country Invitational, finishing 19th in the team standings with 601 points, just ahead of Point Park University in 20th place with 611 points and in back of Marymount University in 18th place with 497 points. The meet, with 20 teams competing, was won by Indiana University of Pennsylvania (53 points), with Baldwin-Wallace College in second place (76 points), George Washington University in third place (83 points), Geneva College in fourth place (134 points), and Robert Morris University in fifth place (160 points). The Redhawks were led by senior Tara Renninger, who established a 7:45 minute per mile pace through the Schenley Park hills, finishing the 3.1 mile (5k) course in 24:04 and placing 144th (out of 197 runners). Beatrice Hand (fr.), with a strong performance, was the La Roche second finisher in 164th place, with a time of 25:44; Melissa Palmieri (fr.), showing significant improvement, was the Redhawk's third finisher in 174th place with a time of 26:16. The fourth finisher for La Roche was Amy Leavengood (jr.) in 178th place, with a time of 26:37, with freshman Hillary Sandzimier finishing close behind in 180th position in a time of 26:49. The men's cross country program was represented by runner Amir Richardson (so.), who ran the five mile (8k) course in a 6:45 per minute pace, finishing with an impressive personal best time of 33 minutes and 37 seconds to nab 149th place (out of 158 runners). Coach Josh Forrest said that he was "delighted" with Richardson's performance, considering how much faster his per-mile pace was this week from previous outings, and had equally strong praise for the efforts of the women's team, noting their "continuing improvement over time" and their "dedication and commitment to the sport."
