Redhwks Roll Into AMCC Tournament Semifinals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche men's basketball took down Alfred State in the first round of the AMCC Tournament on Tuesday night, taking down #6 Alfred State, 74-61.

It was all Redhawks in the opening 8:21 of play, jumping out to a 19-9 lead. Over the next eight minutes of play, it was the Pioneers turn to flip the run, outscoring La Roche, 16-6, tying the game at 25-25 with 3:46 remaining in the first half.

The final stretch belonged to the Redhawks, scoring 10 of the final 12 points to take a 35-27 lead into the half.

Out of the break, La Roche opened with a 7-0 run over the first 3:30 and the lead blossomed to 15-points, 42-27. The Redhawks held a double-digit lead almost the entire second half, until Alfred State made one push to get within six at 67-61 with 1:30 remaining, but a 7-0 La Roche run ended the night.

The Redhawks finished the night 30-for-68 from the floor (44.1%), 6-for-23 from three (26.1%) and 8-for-15 from the foul line (53.3%).

Alfred State concluded the contest shooting 24-for-66 from the field (36.4%), 3-for-19 (15.2%) from deep and 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the charity stripe.

Jeston Beatty put together a career-best performance to open the postseason, scoring 19 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Brandon Bell followed with a 15 point, 10 rebound, double-double, while Major Rainey ended with a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Bryce Epps also provided a stacked line of 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Cooper Rankin contributed 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.

La Roche rolls into the semifinals of the AMCC Tournament and will take on Pitt-Greensburg, Friday, Feb. 27 at 8 pm.
