Redhawks Drop Hard Fought Battle With #11 John Carroll

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In the final non-conference tilt of the season, La Roche women's basketball battled #11 John Carroll tough, falling 69-59.

It was all Blue Streaks in the opening quarter, storming out to a 16-4 lead in the first seven minutes, before taking a 20-13 lead into the second quarter.

In the second, La Roche was able to briefly get to within seven points, but John Carroll opened up its largest lead at 34-19 with 3:05 remaining in the half and ultimately took a 37-25 edge into the half.

Out of the break, it was much of the same, as the Redhawks fought to creep within single digits at times, but a 48-38 deficit loomed, entering the fourth quarter.

After falling behind, 56-45, La Roche gutted out a 10-2 run and put itself within a possession at 58-55 with 4:19 remaining in regulation.

Unfortunately, the Blue Streaks would settle back in and 11 of the final 15 points went to the visitors to come away with the win.

On the night, the Redhawks shot 22-for-49 from the floor (44.9%), 2-for-7 (28.6%) from deep and 13-for-21 (61.9%) from the foul line.

John Carroll ended the night shooting 26-for-58 from the field (44.8%), 2-for-22 from three (9.1%) and 15-for-18 from the foul line (83.3%).

Jazmine Dunn led all scorers with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists.

J'La Kizart and Catherine Kelly both followed with 10 points each as the other two in double figures.

The Redhawks return home on Saturday, Jan. 10 when they play host to Hilbert at 2 p.m.
