Redhawks Outlast Alfred State On Senior Day

PITTSBURGH, PA — The La Roche University women's basketball team turned in a strong performance Saturday afternoon, holding off a late charge from Alfred State to secure an 83–73 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory. The hard-fought win marked another key step forward for the Redhawks in AMCC play.

La Roche jumped out to an early rhythm on both ends of the floor, establishing a lead with effective ball movement and smart decision-making. The Redhawks' balanced offense kept the Pioneers chasing through the first half, as La Roche consistently found open looks and converted timely baskets while staying active defensively to force turnovers and contested shots.

Alfred State answered with toughness of its own, refusing to let the game slip away quietly. The Pioneers generated momentum with aggressive drives to the hoop and strong rebounding that fueled additional scoring opportunities. Behind a group effort that featured gritty play and key buckets, Alfred State kept the margin within striking distance and set the stage for a competitive second half.

After halftime, La Roche again found a scoring groove, stretching its lead with a series of well-executed possessions and sharp shooting from beyond the arc. Yet Alfred State continued to answer — trimming the deficit and applying pressure with sustained offensive efforts.

In the final minutes, the Redhawks leaned on their experience and offensive balance to withstand the Pioneers' late push. La Roche converted crucial free throws and secured rebounds on both ends, helping preserve the lead in the closing stretch. When the final horn sounded, the scoreboard read 83–73 in favor of La Roche — a testament to the Redhawks' resilience and efficiency in late-game situations.

With the victory, La Roche improved its position in conference play and showcased a depth of scoring that will be key as the AMCC race continues to tighten heading toward postseason tournaments.
