Redhawks Season Concludes In AMCC Tournament Semifinal

ALFRED, N.Y. - La Roche women's lacrosse traveled to top seeded Alfred State on Tuesday for an AMCC Tournament Semifinal contest, but in the end, the host Pioneers avenged a regular season loss to the Redhawks, ending the red and white's season with an 11-0 defeat.

From the opening draw, Alfred State controlled the tempo. La Roche struggled to gain possession, winning just two draw controls all game, and that imbalance quickly translated to the scoreboard. Alfred State struck four times in the first quarter, including an unassisted opener from Karlee Hargather and a pair of assisted goals that exposed gaps in La Roche's defensive rotations.

The second quarter brought more of the same. Despite a few defensive stands and a slight uptick in settled play, La Roche couldn't string together enough possession to generate offense. The Redhawks managed just one shot in the period and four total for the game. Alfred State added three more goals before halftime, taking a 7–0 lead into the break.

In net, Julianna Hornikel faced constant pressure but continued to battle, finishing with seven saves across 60 minutes. The defense in front of her showed flashes—particularly in ground ball efforts, where Julianna Hornikel led all players with 11—but turnovers proved costly. La Roche committed 31 turnovers, often halting any chance to build momentum in transition.

The third quarter effectively put the game out of reach. Alfred State scored four more times, capitalizing on extended possessions and efficient ball movement. La Roche's clearing game also faltered during this stretch, going just 1-for-4, which kept the defense on the field for long stretches.

To their credit, the Redhawks closed the game with their strongest defensive quarter, holding Alfred State scoreless in the fourth. La Roche also generated three of its four shots in the final period, showing some late fight despite the deficit.

Individually, La Roche saw contributions across the field. Madalynn Dembrowski and Finnleigh Gould each recorded shots on goal, while Gould added four ground balls. Defensively, players like Alecia D'Urso and Kayla Mull worked to disrupt passing lanes, combining for seven caused turnovers.

Ultimately, though, possession and efficiency told the story. Alfred State held advantages in shots (23–4), draw controls (12–2), and caused turnovers, keeping La Roche on its heels for most of the contest.

The loss ends La Roche's run at 7–6 overall (2–2 in conference play).
